Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Requires insurance
companies to notify the Secretary of State within 10 days
after a policy of motor vehicle liability insurance is
cancelled or terminated.

1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Insurance Code by adding
2 Section 155.31.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by
6 adding Section 155.31 as follows:
7 (215 ILCS 5/155.31 new)
8 Sec. 155.31. Notice to Secretary of State of
9 cancellation or termination of motor vehicle coverage. When
10 a policy of motor vehicle liability insurance is cancelled or
11 otherwise terminated, the insurance company that issued the
12 policy shall notify the Secretary of State of the
13 cancellation or termination. The notice shall be in writing
14 and shall identify the insured and the vehicles covered under
15 the policy. The insurance company must mail the notice to the
16 Secretary of State within 10 days after the cancellation or
17 termination.
