Amends the Hospital Licensing Act. Requires all
hospitals that provide emergency room facilities or care to
have in attendance 24 hours a day licensed physicians
certified in pediatric care.

1 AN ACT to amend the Hospital Licensing Act by adding
2 Section 17.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by
6 adding Section 17 as follows:
7 (210 ILCS 85/17 new)
8 Sec. 17. Certified pediatrician; emergency room. Each
9 hospital licensed under this Act that provides hospital
10 emergency room facilities or care shall have in attendance 24
11 hours a day at least one physician licensed to practice
12 medicine in all of its branches under the Medical Practice
13 Act of 1987 and certified in pediatric medicine.
