Amend House Bill 467 on page 2, by 3 replacing lines 7 through 16 with the following: 4 "Any member of the armed forces of the United States who 5 either (i) has served in such armed forces at least one year, 6 or (ii) has served inwhose service withthe armed forces of 7 the United Statesisfor less than one year in a time of 8 hostilities in a foreign countybut includes active military9duty, including service in the Persian Gulf War or in10military operations to aid Somalia, with the armed forces of11the United States, and who would be qualified for a grant 12 under this Section if he had been discharged from such 13 service shall be eligible to receive a Veteran Grant under 14 this Section."; and 15 on page 3, by replacing lines 1 through 14 with the 16 following: 17 "A grant authorized under this Section shall not be 18 awarded to veterans who received a discharge from the armed 19 forces of the United States under dishonorable conditions, or 20 to any veteran whose service with the armed forces was for 21 less than one year unless he received an honorable discharge 22 from such service for medical reasons directly connected with 23 such service, except for those veterans discharged prior to -2- LRB9002424THpkam 1 August 11, 1967 whose service may be for less than one year, 2 and except for those veterans (i) who serve inwhose service3withthe armed forces of the United Statesisfor less than 4 one year in a time of hostilities in a foreign countybut5includes active military duty, including service in the6Persian Gulf War or in military operations to aid Somalia,7with the armed forces of the United States,and (ii) who 8 receive an honorable discharge."; and 9 on page 4, by inserting below line 6 the following: 10 "As used in this Section, "time of hostilities in a 11 foreign county" means any action by the armed forces of the 12 United States that is recognized by the issuance of a 13 Presidential proclamation or a Presidential executive order 14 and in which the armed forces expeditionary medal or other 15 campaign service medals are awarded according to Presidential 16 executive order.".
