Requires a county board to submit the question of whether to discontinue township organization to the voters if 10% or more of the voters in each township (now, of the county) petition the board. LRB9001422DNcc HB0480 Engrossed LRB9001422DNcc 1 AN ACT to amend the Township Code by changing Section 2 25-5. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing 6 Section 25-5 as follows: 7 (60 ILCS 1/25-5) 8 Sec. 25-5. Petition and referendum to discontinue 9 township organization. Upon the petition of at least 10% of 10 the registeredlegalvoters of each township of aanycounty, 11 as determined on the date registration closed before the 12 regular election next preceding the last day on which the 13 petition may beisfiled, that has adopted township 14 organization, the county board shall certify and cause to be 15 submitted to the voters of the county, at the next general 16 election, the question of the continuance of township 17 organization. A signature on a petition shall not be valid 18 or counted in considering the petition unless the form 19 requirements are complied with and the date of each signature 20 is less than 90 days before the last day for filing the 21 petition. The statement of the person who circulates the 22 petition must include an attestation (i) indicating the dates 23 on which that sheet was circulated, (ii) indicating the first 24 and last date on which that sheet was circulated, or (iii) 25 certifying that none of the signatures on the sheet was 26 signed more than 90 days before the last day for filing the 27 petition. The proposition shall be substantially in the 28 form: 29 Shall township organization be continued in (name of 30 county)? 31 The votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No".
