      625 ILCS 5/6-913 new
          Amends  the  Illinois  Vehicle  Code.   Provides  that  a
      physician shall (instead of may) submit  information  to  the
      Secretary  of  State  relative  to the medical condition of a
      patient  if  the  condition  interferes  with  the  patient's
      ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.  Provides that  if
      the  Secretary  cancels  the  driver's  license  of  a person
      because of a medical condition, the Secretary  shall  restore
      the  person's  driving  privileges  after  an  annual  review
      determines  that  the  medical condition no longer exists and
      the Secretary has  received  a  written  certification  by  a
      physician   that   the  person  no  longer  has  the  medical
      condition.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Illinois  Vehicle  Code  by  changing
 2    Section 6-911 and adding Section 6-913.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is  amended  by
 6    changing Section 6-911 and adding Section 6-913 as follows:
 7        (625 ILCS 5/6-911) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 6-911)
 8        Sec.    6-911.  Information    submitted    by    medical
 9    practitioners; police officers; State's attorneys; or members
10    of  the  judiciary.   A physician shall submit information to
11    the Secretary relative to the medical condition of a  patient
12    if  the  condition  interferes  with the patient's ability to
13    operate a motor vehicle safely. Any other  qualified  medical
14    practitioner,  commissioned police officer, State's attorney,
15    or member of the judiciary acting  in  his  or  her  official
16    capacity  may submit information to the Secretary relative to
17    the  medical  condition  of  a  person,  including  suspected
18    chronic alcoholism or habitual use of narcotics or  dangerous
19    drugs,  if the condition interferes with the person's ability
20    to operate a motor vehicle safely.  Persons  reporting  under
21    this  Section shall enjoy the same immunities granted members
22    of the Board under Section 6-910.

25        Sec. 6-913.  Restoration of driving privileges.   If  the
26    Secretary  cancels the driver's license of a person because a
27    medical condition impairs the person's ability to  operate  a
28    motor   vehicle  safely,  the  Secretary  shall  restore  the
29    person's driving privileges after an annual review determines
30    that the medical condition that impaired the person's ability

 1    to operate a motor vehicle safely no longer  exists  and  the
 2    Secretary has received a written certification by a physician
 3    that  the  person  no  longer  has the medical condition that
 4    impaired the person's ability  to  operate  a  motor  vehicle
 5    safely.
