Amends Public Act 89-501. Increases from $20,000,000 to
$40,000,000 the FY97 appropriation to the Department of
Transportation for grants to the Regional Transportation
Authority for reimbursement for providing reduced mass
transportation fares for students, handicapped persons, and
the elderly. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend "An Act making appropriations and
2 reappropriations", Public Act 89-501, approved June 28, 1996,
3 by changing Section 47 of Article 51.
4 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
5 represented in the General Assembly:
6 Section 5. "An Act making appropriations and
7 reappropriations", Public Act 89-501, approved June 28, 1996,
8 is amended by changing Section 47 of Article 51 as follows:
9 (P.A. 89-501, Article 51, Section 47)
10 Sec. 47. The sum of $40,000,000 $20,000,000, or so much
11 thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated from the General
12 Revenue Fund to the Department of Transportation for making
13 grants to the Regional Transportation Authority for the
14 purpose of reimbursing the Service Boards for providing
15 reduced fares for mass transportation services for students,
16 handicapped persons, and the elderly to be allocated
17 proportionately among the Service Boards based upon actual
18 costs incurred by each Service Board for such reduced fares.

20 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
21 becoming law.
