 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1142
 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill 1142 on page  1  by
 3    replacing lines 23 through 26 with the following:
 4    "complications.     Diabetes  self-management  training shall
 5    include, but shall  not  be  limited  to,  medical  nutrition
 6    therapy.    For   the  purposes  of  this  Section,  "medical
 7    nutrition  therapy"  shall  have  the  meaning  ascribed   to
 8    "medical  nutrition  care"  under  the Dietetic and Nutrition
 9    Services Practice Act."; and
10    on  page  1  by  replacing  lines  29  through  31  with  the
11    following:
12    "professional with expertise in diabetes management."; and
13    on page 2, by deleting lines 1 through 4; and
14    on page 2, line 6, by changing "including" to "including, but
15    not limited to,"; and
16    on  page  2  by  inserting  immediately  below  line  15  the
17    following:
18        "The following equipment, supplies, and related  services
19    shall be covered:
20             (1)  blood glucose monitors;
21             (2)  blood glucose monitors for the legally blind;
22             (3)  cartridges for the legally blind;

 1             (4)  glucose  tablets,  glucagon emergency kits, and
 2        injectable glucose;
 3             (5)  injection aids;
 4             (6)  insulin;
 5             (7)  insulin infusion devices;
 6             (8)  insulin pumps and appurtenances;
 7             (9)  oral agents for controlling blood sugar;
 8             (10)  podiatric   appliances   for   prevention   of
 9        complications associated with diabetes;
10             (11)  syringes, pen needles,  lancets,  and  lancing
11        devices;
12             (12)  test strips for glucose monitors; and
13             (13)  visual reading and urine testing strips.
14        The  Department of Insurance and the Department of Public
15    Health shall jointly develop, promulgate, and annually update
16    by rule a list of diabetic equipment and supplies  for  which
17    coverage  shall  be  available  under  this Section.  Covered
18    equipment and supplies must have been approved by the federal
19    Food and Drug Administration."; and
20    on  page  2  by  inserting  immediately  below  line  24  the
21    following:
22        "(f)  This Section does  not  restrict  or  prohibit  any
23    person  licensed  in  this  State  under  any  other Act from
24    engaging in the practice for which that person is licensed.".
