1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1217
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Bill 1217 on page 3, by
3 inserting after line 7 the following:
4 "Section 10. The Good Samaritan Act is amended by adding
5 Section 12 as follows:
6 (745 ILCS 49/12 new)
7 Sec. 12. Use of an automatic external defibrillator;
8 exemption from civil liability for emergency care. Any
9 person who has successfully completed the training
10 requirements of a course in basic emergency care of a person
11 in cardiac arrest that:
12 (i) included training in the operation and use of an
13 automatic external defibrillator; and
14 (ii) was conducted in accordance with the standards
15 of the American Heart Association,
16 and who, in good faith, not for compensation, renders
17 emergency medical care involving the use of an automatic
18 external defibrillator in accordance with his or her
19 training is not liable for any civil damages as a result of
20 any act or omission, except for willful and wanton
21 misconduct, by that person in rendering that care.".
