90_HB1542 105 ILCS 5/10-20.12 from Ch. 122, par. 10-20.12 Amends the School Code. Beginning with the 1998-1999 school term, provides that children who attain age 5 by December 10 of the school term may attend school upon commencement of the term. LRB9004184THpk LRB9004184THpk 1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by changing Section 2 10-20.12. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 6 Section 10-20.12 as follows: 7 (105 ILCS 5/10-20.12) (from Ch. 122, par. 10-20.12) 8 Sec. 10-20.12. School year - School age. To establish 9 and keep in operation in each year during a school term of at 10 least the minimum length required by Section 10-19, a 11 sufficient number of free schools for the accommodation of 12 all persons in the district who are 5 years of age or older 13 but under 21 years of age, and to secure for all such persons 14 the right and opportunity to an equal education in such 15 schools; provided that children who will attain the age of 5 16 years on or before September 1 of the year of the 1990-1991 17 school term and each school term through the 1997-1998 school 18 term and December 10 of the year of the 1998-1999 school term 19 and each school term thereafter may attend school upon the 20 commencement of such term. Based upon an assessment of a 21 child's readiness to attend school, a school district may 22 permit a child to attend school prior to the dates contained 23 in this Section. In any school district operating on a full 24 year school basis children who will attain age 5 within 30 25 days after the commencement of a term may attend school upon 26 the commencement of such term. The school district may, by 27 resolution of its board, allow for a full year school plan. 28 (Source: P.A. 87-359.)
