          Makes appropriations or reappropriations or both  to  the
      Office  of  the  State  Fire  Marshal  for  fiscal year 1998.
      Effective July 1, 1997.

 1        AN ACT making appropriations.
 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:
 4        Section  1.   The  following  named  amounts,  or so much
 5    thereof as may be necessary, respectively,  are  appropriated
 6    for the ordinary and contingent expenses of the Office of the
 7    State Fire Marshal, as follows:
 8                           GENERAL OFFICE
 9    Payable from the Fire Prevention Fund:
10      For Personal Services......................... $  5,080,100
11      For Employee Retirement Contributions
12       Paid by Employer ............................      203,200
13      For State Contributions to the State
14       Employees' Retirement System.................      259,100
15      For State Contributions to Social Security....      388,700
16      For Group Insurance...........................      635,100
17      For Contractual Services......................      586,300
18      For Travel....................................      125,000

14        Section  2.  The  sum  of $225,000, or so much thereof as
15    may  be  necessary,  is  appropriated  from  the  Underground
16    Storage Tank Fund to the Office of the State Fire Marshal for
17    the purpose of funding expenses  associated  with  processing
18    backlogged  files pursuant to the Leaking Underground Storage
19    Tank Program.
20        Section 3.  The  following  named  amounts,  or  so  much
21    thereof  as  may be necessary, respectively, are appropriated
22    to the Office of the State Fire Marshal as follows:
23    Payable from the Fire Prevention Fund:
24      For Fire Prevention Training.................. $     75,000
25      For Expenses of Life Safety
26       Code Inspection Program......................       25,000
27      For Expenses of Fire Prevention
28       Awareness Program............................       50,000
29      For Expenses of Arson Education
30       and Seminars ................................        5,000
31    Payable from the Fire Prevention
32      Division Fund:

 2       Conservation and Recovery Act
 3       Underground Storage Program..................      186,000

 5    Payable from the Emergency Response
 6      Reimbursement Fund:
 7      For Hazardous Material Emergency
 8       Response Reimbursement ...........................$ 25,000
 9        Section 4.   The following  named  amounts,  or  so  much
10    thereof  as  may be necessary, respectively, are appropriated
11    for the ordinary and contingent expenses of the Office of the
12    State Fire Marshal, as follows:
13                               GRANTS
14    Payable from the Fire Prevention Fund:
15      For Chicago Fire Department Training Program   $    970,000
16      For payment to local governmental agencies
17       which participate in the State Training
18       Programs.....................................      750,000
19        Total                                          $1,720,000
20        Section 5.   The sum of $500,000, or so much  thereof  as
21    may  be  necessary,  is  appropriated  from  the  Underground
22    Storage Tank Fund to the Office of the State Fire Marshal for
23    a  grant  to  the  City  of  Chicago for Administrative Costs
24    incurred as a  result  of  the  State's  Underground  Storage
25    Program.
26        Section 6.   The sum of $2,000, or so much thereof as may
27    be  necessary,  is appropriated from the Fire Prevention Fund
28    to the Office of the State Fire Marshal for grants  available
29    for the development of new fire districts.
30        Section  999.  Effective  date.  This Act takes effect on
