      35 ILCS 200/9-40
          Amends the Property Tax Code.  Makes a  technical  change
      in  the  Section concerning county tax maps maintained by the
      county assessor.

 1        AN ACT to amend the Property Tax Code by changing Section
 2    9-40.
 3        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section  5.  The Property Tax Code is amended by changing
 6    Section 9-40 as follows:
 7        (35 ILCS 200/9-40)
 8        Sec. 9-40.  County tax maps;  County  assessor.   In  any
 9    county with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants that which elects
10    a  county  assessor  under  Section 3-45, the county assessor
11    shall, except as provided in Section 5-1108 of  the  Counties
12    Code,  prepare  and  maintain  tax  maps, up-to-date lists of
13    property owners' names and  addresses,  and  property  record
14    cards for all of the property in the county.  Those documents
15    shall be prepared and maintained in accordance with rules and
16    procedures prescribed by the Department.  The county assessor
17    also  shall  procure  at  regular  intervals from the records
18    maintained by the recorder information relating to  transfers
19    of property. The county assessor shall not duplicate the work
20    of  any  fulltime  township assessor who maintains up-to-date
21    and complete tax maps, ownership lists  and  property  record
22    cards  in  accordance with rules and procedures prescribed by
23    the Department, but this shall not preclude  the  maintenance
24    of duplicate copies of those records in the county assessor's
25    office.  This  Section  does not prohibit the preparation and
26    setting up of a property record system (including appraisals)
27    and property record cards as provided for in other Acts,  but
28    the  system  and  records  shall  not  be  considered  to  be
29    assessments  nor limit the powers and duties of the assessors
30    under this Code. Systems and records or copies of them set up
31    under such  other  Acts  may  be  maintained  by  the  county

 1    assessor  in his or her office. In preparing the original tax
 2    maps, lists and property record cards,  the  county  assessor
 3    shall  consult  with  the  Department.  The  Department shall
 4    furnish to that officer supplies and equipment as may, in its
 5    judgment, be necessary to set up the original  set  of  maps,
 6    lists and records required by this Section.
