1 AN ACT concerning governmental ethics.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act is
5 amended by changing Section 3-101 as follows:
6 (5 ILCS 420/3-101) (from Ch. 127, par. 603-101)
7 Sec. 3-101. Gift ban. No legislator may solicit, accept,
8 or agree to accept, gifts, loans, gratuities, discounts,
9 favors, hospitality, or services having an aggregate value of
10 $100 or more in any calendar year from any one person known
11 to have legislative interests, under circumstances from which
12 it could reasonably be inferred that a major purpose of the
13 donor is to influence him in the performance of his official
14 duties.
15 This section does not apply to (1) any political
16 contribution, in cash or in kind, if such contribution is
17 actually used for political purposes; (2) the purchase of
18 tickets to, or advertisements in journals for, political or
19 testimonial dinners; or (3) a commercially reasonable loan
20 made in the ordinary course of business.
