Provides that the offense of endangering the life or health of a child that results in great bodily harm or death to a child who is under the age of 18 is a Class 2 felony (now a first offense is a Class A misdemeanor and a second or subsequent offense is a Class 3 felony). Effective immediately. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by 6 changing Section 12-21.6 as follows: 7 (720 ILCS 5/12-21.6) 8 Sec. 12-21.6. Endangering the life or health of a child. 9 It is unlawful for any person to willfully cause or permit 10 the life or health of a child under the age of 18 to be 11 endangered or to willfully cause or permit a child to be 12 placed in circumstances that endanger the child's life or 13 health. A violation of this Section is a Class A 14 misdemeanor. A second or subsequent violation of this 15 Section is a Class 3 felony. A violation of this Section that 16 results in great bodily harm or death to a child under the 17 age of 18 is a Class 2 felony. 18 (Source: P.A. 88-479.) 19 Section 99. Effective date.
