          Amends the Veterans Burial  Places  Act.   Increases  the
      amount  the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall pay for the
      cost of transporting and erecting a headstone or memorial for
      a United States war veteran when the headstone or memorial is
      required to be provided by the United States Government  from
      an  amount  not to exceed $50 to an amount not to exceed $75.
      Changes a reference to a Section of the United States Code to
      reflect its renumbering.  Effective immediately.

 1        AN ACT  to  amend  the  Veterans  Burial  Places  Act  by
 2    changing Section 1.1.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The Veterans Burial Places Act is amended  by
 6    changing Section 1.1 as follows:
 7        (330 ILCS 110/1.1) (from Ch. 21, par. 59a1)
 8        Sec.  1.1.   When  a  headstone  or  memorial  marker  is
 9    provided for a United States War Veteran by the United States
10    Government  pursuant  to  Section 2306 906 of Title 38 of the
11    United States Code, the Department of Veterans' Affairs shall
12    pay an amount not to exceed $75 $50 to the  next  of  kin  or
13    cemetery  official  or  monument company official responsible
14    for the cost of transporting and erecting  the  headstone  or
15    memorial.  However,  no  such  payment shall be made unless a
16    signed application is presented to the Department by the next
17    of kin or cemetery official  or  monument  company  official,
18    along  with  such  other  proof of transportation or erection
19    charges as the Department may require. All such  applications
20    for payment shall be on forms provided by the Department.

22        Section  99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect upon
23    becoming law.
