      105 ILCS 5/34-18.18 new
          Amends the School Code.   Requires  school  districts  to
      employ  full-time  receptionists who are on duty at all times
      during the regular school day to  answer  telephones  at  the
      district's  administrative  offices  and  attendance centers.
      Prohibits the use  of  answering  machines,  voice  mail,  or
      similar  devices to respond to incoming telephone calls at an
      administrative office or attendance center.

 1        AN ACT to  amend  the  School  Code  by  adding  Sections
 2    10-22.24b and 34-18.18.
 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:
 5        Section 5.  The School Code is amended by adding Sections
 6    10-22.24b and 34-18.18 as follows:
 7        (105 ILCS 5/10-22.24b new)
 8        Sec. 10-22.24b.  Receptionists.  The school  board  shall
 9    employ  full-time  receptionists who are on duty at all times
10    during the regular school day to answer telephones that serve
11    the district's administrative offices and attendance centers.
12    No school board shall permit answering machines, voice  mail,
13    or  equivalent telecommunication recording devices to be used
14    to  answer,  receive,  or  otherwise  respond   to   incoming
15    telephone  calls  at  an  administrative office or attendance
16    center of the district at any time during the regular  school
17    day.

19        Sec.  34-18.18.  Receptionists.   The  board of education
20    shall employ full-time receptionists who are on duty  at  all
21    times during the regular school day to answer telephones that
22    serve  the  district's  administrative offices and attendance
23    centers.  The board of education shall not  permit  answering
24    machines,   voice   mail,   or  equivalent  telecommunication
25    recording devices to be used to answer, receive, or otherwise
26    respond to incoming  telephone  calls  at  an  administrative
27    office  or  attendance  center  of  the  district at any time
28    during the regular school day.
