Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to prohibit a person
from operating, on interstate highways and tollroads, a
second division vehicle registered for a gross weight of
8,000 pounds or less while a person under age 16 is in the
cargo area of the vehicle. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding
2 Section 11-1429.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
6 adding Section 11-1429 as follows:
7 (625 ILCS 5/11-1429 new)
8 Sec. 11-1429. Child in cargo area prohibited. It is
9 unlawful for a person to operate, on interstate highways and
10 on highways under the jurisdiction of the Illinois State Toll
11 Highway Authority, a second division vehicle registered for a
12 gross weight of 8,000 pounds or less while a person under 16
13 years of age is in the cargo area of the vehicle.
14 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15 becoming law.
