 1                       HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS,  The  National  Railroad  Passenger  Corporation
 3    (Amtrak) is considering closing its  Reservation  Sales  Call
 4    Center located in downtown Chicago and has initiated a search
 5    to open a new Center in a different state; and
 6        WHEREAS,   The  Chicago  Reservation  Sales  Call  Center
 7    employs nearly 400 Illinois citizens who have been an  asset,
 8    professionally and economically, to our State; and
 9        WHEREAS,  These  experienced  and  well-trained  citizens
10    working  in  the  Call  Center  play  a  valuable role in the
11    efficient functioning and long-term success of Amtrak; and
12        WHEREAS,  The  Chicago   area   is   a   major   national
13    transportation  hub  and  an  historic  hub of rail passenger
14    service and moving  the  functions  of  the  Call  Center  to
15    another  state  might  ultimately  lead to a reduced level of
16    rail passenger service for the State of Illinois; and
17        WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has invested significantly
18    in the continuation and improvement of  Amtrak-operated  rail
19    passenger service within and through our State; therefore, be
20    it
21        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
22    NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF  THE  STATE  OF  ILLINOIS,  THE
23    SENATE  CONCURRING  HEREIN,  that  we  urge  the President of
24    Amtrak  and  its  Directors   to   maintain   the   important
25    Reservation  Sales  Call Center in Illinois and to diligently
26    explore all options toward that goal; and be it further
27        RESOLVED, That suitable  copies  of  this  resolution  be
28    forwarded  to  the  President  of Amtrak, to the Mayor of the
29    City  of  Chicago,  and  to  the  members  of  the   Illinois
30    congressional delegation.
