1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 30
2 AMENDMENT NO. . Amend House Joint Resolution 30, on
3 page 1, lines 4 through 6, by changing "Baltimore; he later
4 attended the Catholic University of America and received a
5 master's degree in education" to "Baltimore and a master's
6 degree in education from the Catholic University of America";
7 and
8 in line 9, by changing "Chancellor," to "Chancellor"; and
9 in lines 11 through 13, by changing "VI; he became Archbishop
10 of Cincinnati in November, 1972, where he served for nearly
11 10 years" to "VI and in November 1972 he became Archbishop of
12 Cincinnati, in which position he served for nearly 10 years";
13 and
14 in line 21, by changing "NCCB" to "National Conference of
15 Catholic Bishops"; and
16 in line 23, by changing "the Cardinal" to "The Cardinal"; and
17 in line 25, by changing "Lake; he" to "Lake and"; and
18 in line 26, by changing "America," to "America"; and
19 on page 2, line 4, by changing "on" to "On"; and
20 by replacing lines 9 through 20 with the following:

1 WHEREAS, The City of Chicago and the State of Illinois
2 have lost a great leader; and
3 WHEREAS, His leadership helped unite the Catholic
4 community of Chicago, his work influenced the lives of many
5 individuals and served as a beacon of hope for people of all
6 faiths and he was an advocate for numerous causes; he was
7 posthumously awarded the Lincoln Academy highest State level
8 honor; and
9 WHEREAS, Cardinal Bernardin continued to uplift and
10 inspire us even after being diagnosed with cancer; and
11 WHEREAS, Cardinal Bernardin has begun a new life and he
12 will be deeply missed by all those who knew him and heard of
13 his works on earth; and
14 WHEREAS, Cardinal Bernardin warrants a public tribute;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, North Avenue in Chicago (Illinois Route 64),
17 from Lake Shore Drive to Interstate 294, is traveled by many
18 persons loved by the Cardinal; therefore, be it"; and
19 in line 22, by changing "ILLINOIS," to "ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
20 CONCURRING HEREIN,"; and
21 in line 24, by changing "with" to "in"; and
22 in line 25, by changing "that this body designates the" to
23 "the General Assembly therefore designates that"; and
24 on page 3, line 1, by replacing "Avenue which shall bear the
25 name "Cardinal Bernardin Avenue";" with "Avenue which shall
26 bear the name "Cardinal Bernardin Avenue" and that the
27 "Chicago Skyway Bridge" on Interstate 90 be named the
28 "Cardinal Bernardin Skyway";"; and
29 on page 3, line 3, by changing "that" to "That"; and

2 in lines 7 and 8, by changing "that suitable copies of this
3 Preamble and Resolution" to "That suitable copies of this
4 resolution"; and
5 in line 9, by changing "commemorate Joseph Cardinal
6 Bernardin," to "commemorate the life and works of Joseph
7 Cardinal Bernardin"."
