1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan is a native son of the
3 State of Illinois who became the 40th President of the United
4 States of America; and
5 WHEREAS, When confronted by increasingly tense relations
6 with the former Soviet Union, President Reagan's policy of
7 "peace through strength" restored national security, ensured
8 peace, and paved the way for the successful end of the Cold
9 War; and
10 WHEREAS, Legislation has been introduced in the United
11 States Congress to rename the Washington National Airport as
12 the "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport"; and
13 WHEREAS, This legislation aims to honor one of the United
14 States' greatest and most beloved presidents and a true world
15 leader; and
16 WHEREAS, Naming the travel gateway into the nation's
17 capitol after President Ronald Reagan is a fitting tribute to
18 his legacy of prosperity and freedom; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
21 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that this legislative body
22 respectfully urges that the Congress of the United States
23 enact legislation to rename the Washington National Airport
24 as the "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport"; and be it
25 further
26 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
27 presented to the President of the United States, the Speaker
28 of the United States House of Representatives, the President
29 Pro-Tempore of the United States Senate, the Secretary of the
30 United States Senate, the Clerk of the United States House of
31 Representatives, and the members of the Illinois
