1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Child abuse prevention is a community problem
3 and finding solutions depends on involvement among people
4 throughout Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Statistics of children who are abused and
6 neglected are too high, the number of reported child abuse
7 cases were 119,448 last fiscal year; and
8 WHEREAS, The effects of child abuse are felt by whole
9 communities, and need to be addressed by the entire
10 community; and
11 WHEREAS, Effective child abuse prevention programs
12 succeed because of partnerships created among private and
13 public social service agencies, schools, the courts,
14 religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the
15 business community; and
16 WHEREAS, Parents Anonymous, Children's Home & Aid Society
17 of Illinois' prevention program, offers positive alternatives
18 to help break the cycle of abuse, and is sponsoring Illinois'
19 Blue Bow Campaign to heighten awareness of the need to
20 support families; and
21 WHEREAS, All citizens should become more aware of child
22 abuse and its prevention within the community, and to become
23 involved in supporting parents to raise their children in a
24 safe, nurturing environment; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
27 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we do hereby support and
28 appreciate the efforts of Illinois' Parents Anonymous Blue
29 Bow Campaign designed to increase public awareness of child
30 abuse as a critical issue in our society; and, to promote
31 positive parenting and call upon all citizens to increase

1 their participation in efforts to prevent child abuse,
2 thereby strengthening the communities in which we live; and
3 be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Parents Anonymous.
