90_HJ0065 LRB9012091CBcbA 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Various Illinois statutes governing the 3 collection, retention, and storage of public records were 4 enacted many years ago; and 5 WHEREAS, Modern technology has resulted in the 6 development of record keeping technologies and formats, 7 including those widely acknowledged in the commercial world, 8 that are not contemplated by existing Illinois laws governing 9 the collection, protection, and storage of public records; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Sound public policy dictates that special 12 concern be paid to the security and authenticity of public 13 records and that adequate safeguards be provided by law; 14 therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 17 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that a 12-member Task Force be 18 formed to study the modernization of laws dealing with public 19 records; the Task Force shall consist of a designee of the 20 Governor, a local Records commission, the Mayor of the City 21 of Chicago, the Illinois Municipal League, the DuPage Mayors 22 and Managers Conference, and the Municipal Clerks of 23 Illinois; 2 members appointed by the President of the Senate; 24 2 members appointed by the Speaker of the House of 25 Representatives; one member appointed by the Minority Leader 26 of the Senate; and one member appointed by the Minority 27 Leader of the House of Representatives; appointments made by 28 the General Assembly shall be made within 30 days after this 29 Resolution is adopted; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That the Task Force report its findings and 31 recommendations to the General Assembly and the Governor no 32 later than January 1, 1999; and be it further -2- LRB9012091CBcbA 1 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 2 delivered to the Governor, the Speaker of the House of 3 Representatives, the President of the Senate, the Minority 4 Leader of the House of Representatives, and the Minority 5 Leader of the Senate.
