1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Newspapers have made it their purpose to keep
3 the public abreast of current events and are a vital source
4 of information; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Bureau
6 County Republican is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its
7 founding in 1997; and
8 WHEREAS, First published on December 2, 1847 by Ebenezer
9 Higgins, the Bureau County Republican boasts a proud
10 tradition of providing in-depth news coverage to its readers;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, The Bureau County Republican has received
13 several awards for its journalistic excellence; it won the
14 distinction of being judged best weekly newspaper in the
15 State in 1988 and 1991; and
16 WHEREAS, The active participation, leadership, and
17 commitment of the Bureau County Republican in community and
18 regional development should be recognized on this 150th
19 anniversary of its founding; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 congratulate the Bureau County Republican on its 150th
23 anniversary and extend our sincere best wishes for continued
24 success in the future; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
26 presented to Publisher Sam R. Fisher and Editor James F.
27 Troyer.
