 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS,  The  members  of  this  Body  are  pleased   to
 3    recognize Illinois citizens who have distinguished themselves
 4    in service to their community and this State; and
 5        WHEREAS,  Ms.  Charlotte  Newberger  of Chicago is one of
 6    those individuals and it has come to our attention  that  she
 7    is  being  honored  by  the  Community  Foundation for Jewish
 8    Education; and
 9        WHEREAS,  Through  the  years,  Charlotte  Newberger  has
10    shared her love for her Jewish heritage and culture; and
11        WHEREAS,  Charlotte  Newberger  moved  to  Chicago  after
12    graduating from the University of Wisconsin; and
13        WHEREAS, Before beginning  her  distinguished  career  in
14    residential  real  estate  as  a founding partner of Beliard,
15    Gordon & Partners, she taught elementary school  in  Evanston
16    and  was  actively  involved  in  performing  with children's
17    theater groups in the Chicago area; she was  also  a  founder
18    and  partner  of  the  Heartland  Health  and  Fitness Spa in
19    Gillman; and
20        WHEREAS, Her love of the  arts  is  proven  by  her  past
21    involvement  on the boards of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company
22    and the Auditorium Theater Council and as a past president of
23    the National Jewish Theatre; and
24        WHEREAS, She also exhibits her  devotion  to  her  Jewish
25    heritage   through   her   affiliation   with  the  Community
26    Foundation for Jewish Education,  the  Jewish  Federation  of
27    Metropolitan  Chicago, the Council of Jewish Federations, the
28    American  Jewish  Congress,  the  Hillels  of  Illinois,  the
29    Medical Development of Israel, the  National  Foundation  for
30    Jewish Culture, the Sholom Hartman Institute, Mothers' Voices
31    of Illinois, the Poetry Center, and the New Israel Fund; and

 1        WHEREAS,  In  1989  she  was  recognized  by the American
 2    Jewish Congress for her contributions, making her  the  first
 3    recipient of the Deborah Award as one of the most influential
 4    women leaders in the Jewish community; and
 5        WHEREAS,  Charlotte  Newberger's  enthusiastic support of
 6    the Chicago Jewish community will long inspire  the  citizens
 7    of this State; therefore, be it
 8        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 9    NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that  we
10    congratulate Charlotte Newberger on the honor paid her by the
11    Community  Foundation  for  Jewish Education; that we applaud
12    her many contributions to this State; and that we  extend  to
13    her  our best wishes for continued success in the future; and
14    be it further
15        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
16    presented to her as an expression of our respect and esteem.
