1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, International students are a valuable addition
3 to our schools within the State of Illinois; the American
4 students, as well as the faculty and staff of our schools are
5 all educated and enriched by the presence of these students;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, International students also learn new ideas,
8 from learning about the United States and its diverse mix of
9 people and cultures, as well as the chance to return to their
10 native land with stories to tell their family and friends;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is pleased to join The
13 Council for Educational Travel, USA in supporting their
14 efforts to increase the awareness of (i) the benefits of
15 global travel for international students; (ii) the learning
16 environment that families can experience by hosting an
17 international student in their homes; and (iii) the new
18 information and insights a school's students, faculty, and
19 staff can gain from the presence of an international student;
20 therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23 join with the Council for Educational Travel, USA, in
24 requesting Governor Edgar in declaring March 1997 as
25 International Student Awareness Month in the State of
26 Illinois; to recognize the importance of educating our
27 children by opening them up to new cultures and people
28 through student exchange; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to Governor Edgar.
