90_HR0059 LRB9005181KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The week of March 16-22, 1997 is designated as 3 National Agriculture Week and March 20th is designated as 4 National Agriculture Day; and 5 WHEREAS, Illinois is gifted with some of the richest 6 agricultural resources in the world, with more than 28 7 million acres of farm land, allowing Illinois to be 8 recognized as a world supplier of food and fiber; and 9 WHEREAS, Each American farmer produces enough food and 10 fiber for 129 people, 97 in the United States and 32 abroad, 11 supplying consumers with abundant, safe, and wholesome food; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, Americans only have to spend 11 percent of their 14 disposable personal income on food, earning enough to pay for 15 their annual food supply be February 10th of each year; and 16 WHEREAS, Illinois farmers are leaders in both livestock 17 and grain production; are leading producers of corn and 18 soybeans, which make up about one-fourth of all United States 19 agricultural exports; and are also leaders in natural 20 resource protection; and 21 WHEREAS, Agriculture is an important part of life in 22 Illinois, contributing nearly $50 billion to the State 23 economy, employing nearly 900,000 Illinoisans, with 24 approximately 1,400 food producing companies located within 25 the State; and 26 WHEREAS, Illinois ranks near the top of the national 27 scale in both production agriculture and agricultural 28 processing, and ranks number one among all states in the 29 production of ethanol; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB9005181KBkb 1 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 2 salute the Illinois farmer and farmers across the nation 3 during National Agriculture Week, honoring their continued 4 efforts in agricultural production and natural resource 5 protection.
