1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Illinois undertook welfare reform through
3 legislation passed by the 89th Illinois General Assembly and
4 signed into law by the Governor; and
5 WHEREAS, The laws enacted for welfare reform were enacted
6 so that they would apply fairly and equally to all
7 Illinoisans; and
8 WHEREAS, Illinois seeks reimbursement from the federal
9 government for income and food stamp assistance commonly
10 referred to as welfare; and
11 WHEREAS, Since the enactment of Illinois' welfare reform
12 law, the Governor of the State of Illinois has applied for a
13 waiver from the federal government to permit extended income
14 and food stamp assistance for selected areas of Illinois and
15 not for other areas equally or more profoundly impacted by
16 welfare reform; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19 request the Governor to amend his application for a federal
20 reimbursement waiver in order to include affected residents
21 from all areas of Illinois consistent with the original
22 intention of Illinois' welfare reform laws to treat all
23 Illinois equally and fairly under the law; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 delivered to Governor Jim Edgar.
