90_HR0079 LRB9005414KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones of Chicago, Illinois is retiring as 3 Principal of the Burnham/Anthony Inclusive Academy; and 4 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones taught in the Chicago public schools 5 for 33 years and was an elementary school principal for 7 6 years; and 7 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones began her teaching career on 8 February 4, 1957 and retired on January 31, 1997; and 9 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones attended McCosh Elementary school 10 and Englewood High School; she is a graduate of Chicago 11 Teachers College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts 12 degree in Education; she received her Master of Arts in Urban 13 Teacher Education from Governor's State University; and she 14 did post graduate work at the National College of Education 15 at Lewis University within the field of Supervision and 16 Administration; and 17 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones worked with her local school council 18 to establish a hot lunch and a breakfast program; all day 19 kindergarten; mini computer labs; State pre-kindergarten; 7th 20 and 8th grade within the elementary school; a program for 21 severe and profoundly disabled pupils; Cross/Categorical 22 Room; and students support math fundraiser used for St. Judes 23 Hospital for critically ill children; in addition, Ellen 24 Jones was an administrator of the IASA program at Our Lady 25 Gate of Heaven School; and 26 WHEREAS, Ellen Jones is an Ordained Deacon at the United 27 Church of Christ; a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; a 28 member of the Board of Directors of Jazz Unites; and 29 President of Woodlawn Revisited Inc., an organization 30 designed to give back to the community that its members grew 31 up in as children; therefore, be it -2- LRB9005414KBkb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 3 congratulate Ellen Jones on a job well done as a Principal 4 within the Chicago schools; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Ellen Jones.
