1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Republic of Poland is a free, democratic and
3 independent nation with a long and proud history; and
4 WHEREAS, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is
5 dedicated to the preservation of freedom and security of its
6 member nations; and
7 WHEREAS, The Republic of Poland desires to share in both
8 the benefits and obligations of NATO in pursuing the
9 development, growth, and promotion of democratic institutions
10 and ensuring free market economic development; and
11 WHEREAS, Poland recognizes its responsibilities as a
12 democratic nation and wishes to exercise such
13 responsibilities in concert with members of NATO; and
14 WHEREAS, The Republic of Poland desires to become part of
15 NATO's efforts to prevent the extremes of nationalism; and
16 WHEREAS, The security of the United States is dependent
17 upon the stability of central Europe; therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20 respectfully urge the President of the United States and the
21 Congress of the United States to support the Republic of
22 Poland's petition for admission to the North Atlantic Treaty
23 Organization; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That we respectfully urge Congress to support
25 the establishment of a timetable for the admission of the
26 Republic of Poland to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization;
27 and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
29 forwarded to the President of the United States, the Speaker
30 of the United States House of Representatives, the President

1 of the United States Senate, to each member of the Illinois
2 congressional delegation, and to the Ambassador of the
3 Republic of Poland.
