90_HR0084 LRB9005148KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The first mayor of Long Creek, Illinois is 3 retiring after serving sixteen and a half years; and 4 WHEREAS, Elvin Klaska became the mayor of Long Creek, 5 Illinois after being elected in 1980 at the age of 66; Mr. 6 Klaska has not missed a village board since that time; and 7 WHEREAS, In June of 1980 Long Creek became an 8 incorporated village so the people of the community would not 9 have to pay Decatur taxes; the village started out with a 10 mayor, six trustees, a clerk and a treasurer; Long Creek has 11 never had a village tax because Mayor Klaska had told the 12 residents from the beginning he would not levy a tax; and 13 WHEREAS, Long Creek has seen the advent of many new 14 things under the service of Mayor Klaska, including cable 15 television, gas, a good water supply, and a fire department; 16 and 17 WHEREAS, Long Creek residents work together with Mayor 18 Klaska to raise money and seek improvements for the 19 community; people work together in the spring on a Sparkle 20 and Shine day to spruce up their village and have raised 21 money to erect a flag pole in the village; and 22 WHEREAS, Mayor Klaska and his wife, Lucille have been 23 married 58 years; they have two children, Carol and Roger, as 24 well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; 25 therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 28 congratulate Elvin Klaska on his retirement from the position 29 of Mayor of Long Creek, Illinois, and wish him continued 30 happiness in his future; and be it further -2- LRB9005148KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Mayor Elvin Klaska of Long Creek, Illinois.
