 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wishes to convey their sadness at hearing of
 4    the death of Willie Mae Slaughter  of  Chicago,  Illinois  on
 5    March 25, 1997; and
 6        WHEREAS, Willie Mae Slaughter was born on August 17, 1931
 7    in  Arcola,  Mississippi; Willie Mae was the daughter of John
 8    and Annie Jenkins;  on  November  11,  1946  married  Johnnie
 9    Slaughter;  to  this blessed union twelve children were born;
10    and
11        WHEREAS, Willie Mae accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and
12    Saviour at an early age; Willie Mae  joined  with  the  Mount
13    Hebron   Baptist  Church  under  the  pastorate  of  Reverend
14    Wordlaw; she remained a loyal and  dedicated  member  of  the
15    church until her death; and
16        WHEREAS, Willie Mae was a seamstress who is remembered as
17    being  able  to  do  the  simplest  hems in pants to the most
18    complicated and delicate wedding gowns; and
19        WHEREAS, Willie  Mae  Slaughter  leaves  behind  a  large
20    family  including her four daughters Dorothy, Sheila, Elayne,
21    and Jacqueline; her four sons  Robert,  Kenneth,  Elvis,  and
22    James;  her  brother  Rufus Jenkins; her two daughters-in-law
23    Shirley   and   Maria;   her   son-in-law   James    Jackson;
24    thirty-fivegrnadchildren;  twelve  great  grandchildren; many
25    nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of special  friends;
26    therefore, be it
27        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
28    NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that  we
29    mourn, along with her family and friends, the death of Willie
30    Mae Slaughter of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further
31        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
