90_HR0132 LRB9005616CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the House were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Mrs. Eleanor Traughber of Chicago on Monday, 4 March 31, 1997, at 101 years of age; and 5 WHEREAS, She was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on November 6 20, 1895, the daughter of Ransom Jr. and Deetta Usher; she 7 completed college preparatory at Rush College in Holly 8 Spring, Mississippi; and 9 WHEREAS, Eleanor Usher and Grover Traughber were united 10 in marriage on March 28, 1920 and adopted a daughter, Peggy, 11 who was born on September 20, 1933; both her husband and 12 daughter preceded her in death; and 13 WHEREAS, As a member of Grant Memorial A.M.E. Church in 14 Chicago, Eleanor Usher Traughber became President of the 15 W.H.G. Griffin Club, a position she held for over sixty 16 years; she was also the Secretary of the Federated Clubs; and 17 WHEREAS, Eleanor Traughber was active in the community in 18 several organizations; she was Vice President of the St. 19 Columbanus Senior Citizens Club for many years and served as 20 a Election Judge for the City of Chicago for more than thirty 21 years; and 22 WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Traughber 23 witnessed many historic events and much change in society, 24 and her memories and experiences created a legacy enjoyed by 25 her family and friends; and 26 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 27 and friends, especially her granddaughter, Cheryl Lynn 28 Thomas-Porter; her grandson, Lewis Ron Harris II; her 29 great-grandchildren, Lewis Kortez Harris III and La Toya 30 Renealyn Porter; and her cousins, Jessie and Minette; 31 therefore, be it -2- LRB9005616CBcb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 3 note with sorrow the death of Mrs. Eleanor Usher Traughber 4 and extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; 5 and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of Mrs. Eleanor Usher Traughber.
