90_HR0151 LRB9005695KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, On June 30, 1997, Clarence Ellis, Sr., a native 3 of East St. Louis, Illinois, will retire from the East St. 4 Louis School District #189; and 5 WHEREAS, Clarence Ellis, Sr. was born in East St. Louis, 6 Illinois; his parents, Edgar T. and Ophelia Ellis, raised 7 seven children in the modest surroundings of a neighborhood 8 that was supportive and family orientated; and 9 WHEREAS, Clarence Ellis, Sr. attended Garfield and Carver 10 public schools, which are located in the Goose Hill area of 11 East St. Louis; in 1949 Clarence received his high school 12 diploma from Lincoln Senior High School; Mr. Ellis enrolled 13 in the formerly titled A.N.&N. College in Pine Bluff, 14 Arkansas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree; he 15 went on to earn a Master of Science Degree from the former 16 Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois at 17 Springfield), where he majored in Education Administration 18 and Public Administration; Mr. Ellis graduated from the 19 Danforth St. Louis Leadership Class in 1980; and 20 WHEREAS, While attending high school, college, and during 21 his time of service to the United States Marines, Clarence 22 Ellis, Sr. participated in football, basketball, track, and 23 baseball; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis was hired by School District #189 25 thirty-seven years ago; he first taught at the Monroe Manual 26 Training School; he went on to teach at Lansdown Jr. High 27 School and Lincoln Sr. High School; he also served as 28 Assistant Principal of the Adult Education Program, Assistant 29 Principal of Hughes-Quinn/Rock Jr. High School, and 30 Coordinator of the Early School Leavers Program; Mr. Ellis 31 presently serves as the ESL regional Vocational Education 32 Director for School Districts #188, #189, and Metropolitan -2- LRB9005695KBkb 1 Community College; and 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis has supported and been dedicated to 3 serving the Economic Opportunity Commission and the Equal 4 Rights Committee of East St. Louis; Mr. Ellis served 5 twenty-two years as Precinct Committeeman in Precinct #24, 6 ten years as Chairman and Board Trustee for State Community 7 College, six years as a St. Clair County Board Member, and 8 nineteen years as Alderman in East St. Louis Wards #5 and #8; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Clarence Ellis, Sr. has served as a member and 11 volunteer on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls 12 Club of East St. Louis; Mr. Ellis is the recipient of the 13 prestigious "Kemmel Award", presented by the Belleville News 14 Democrat and Southern Illinois University; and 15 WHEREAS, Clarence Ellis, Sr. is supported in his 16 retirement by his best friend, his wife Willa M. Ellis, 17 Ph.D.; his five sons, Kelvin, Clarence, Jr., Monte, Edgar, 18 and Terrance; as well as several grandchildren and great 19 grandchildren; therefore, be it 20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 21 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 22 commend Clarence Ellis, Sr. as he retires and begins the 23 pursuit of his new dream, the opening of The Wonder Years Day 24 Care Center, along with his wife; and be it further 25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 26 presented to Clarence Ellis, Sr., along with our sincere 27 congratulations.
