90_HR0182 LRB9005795CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that we recognize a 3 citizen of this State who, determined to receive an 4 education, overcame great challenges to fulfill a lifelong 5 dream; and 6 WHEREAS, Edward Brown of Country Club Hills, at the age 7 of 80, received an associate's degree in applied science and 8 real estate from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, In 1932, during the Great Depression, Edward 11 Brown dropped out of high school to help support his family, 12 and in 1948, he was forced to drop out of the University of 13 Illinois at Chicago to support his wife and children; and 14 WHEREAS, After forty-two years of working two jobs and 15 after retiring from the National Guard, the City of Chicago, 16 and the United States Post Office, Edward Brown returned to 17 class to earn that long sought and dreamed of degree; and 18 WHEREAS, The great-grandson of slaves, Edward Brown, 19 because of his devotion to his family and his dream of 20 receiving an education, leaves a legacy of commitment and 21 determination that were his hallmarks; his family are justly 22 proud of him; therefore, be it 23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 24 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 25 congratulate Edward Brown on receiving his degree from 26 Prairie State College and extend to him our sincere best 27 wishes for continued success in the future; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 29 presented to him as an expression of our respect and 30 admiration.
