90_HR0187 LRB9005837DPsb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, This Body finds there is a substantial need for 3 expanded educational, technological, and scientific research 4 in the Metro East region of this State; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 6 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 7 there is hereby created the Metro East Education Task Force, 8 consisting of 2 Representatives appointed by the Speaker and 9 one appointed by the Minority Leader and 10 citizens, 5 of 10 whom shall be appointed by the Speaker and 5 of whom shall be 11 appointed by the Minority Leader; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall study means to 13 attract and retain academic centers of excellence, 14 technology, and research and other educational resource 15 facilities in the Metro East region and the need for a Metro 16 East regional body politic and corporate to perform the 17 following functions: 18 (1) maintain the proper surroundings for academic 19 centers of excellence and related technology and resource 20 centers in order to attract and retain therein (i) 21 training and continuing education facilities for 22 teachers, administrators, and other educators, and (ii) 23 computer technology, distance learning and 24 telecommunication, laboratory, library, research and 25 related educational resource facilities; and 26 (2) provide for the orderly creation and expansion 27 of (i) various county and local governmental facilities, 28 (ii) other ancillary or related facilities that the 29 Commission may from time to time determine should be 30 established and operated for any aspect of the carrying 31 out of the Commission's purposes, or should be 32 established and operated to promote educational, 33 technological, or scientific research and knowledge, and -2- LRB9005837DPsb 1 (iii) research and high technology parks, together with 2 the necessary lands, buildings, facilities, equipment, 3 and personal property therefor. 4 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall meet as soon as 5 possible after the appointment of a majority of its members 6 to the Task Force to begin its study, and shall thereafter 7 meet at the call of the chairperson to be appointed by the 8 Speaker; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall report its findings 10 and recommendations to the General Assembly on or before 11 December 31, 1998; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That members of the Task Force shall serve 13 without compensation but shall be reimbursed for their 14 reasonable and necessary expenses from funds appropriated for 15 that purpose; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 17 forwarded to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House of 18 Representatives.
