1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
4 Reverend Daniel F. Montalbano, pastor of Resurrection
5 Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, Reverend Daniel F. Montalbano was associate
7 director of the ecumenical office of the Roman Catholic
8 Archdiocese of Chicago; and
9 WHEREAS, Father Montalbano was born in Bridgeport; his
10 father, Ben was Italian, and his mother, Marion was Polish;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, One week before his untimely death, Father
13 Montalbano celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of his
14 ordination as a priest; and
15 WHEREAS, Father Montalbano served at St. Francis de Sales
16 on the East Side of Chicago, where he founded the De Sales
17 Senior Center; he served at the Newman Center at the
18 University of Illinois at Chicago; he served at St. Mary in
19 Evanston; and at St. Sebastian, which burned to the ground
20 three weeks after Father Montalbano arrived there to serve;
21 and
22 WHEREAS, Father Montalbano was assigned to serve as the
23 common administrator for the St. Francis Xavier and St.
24 Veronica parishes, where he oversaw the consolidation of the
25 two parishes into one; as a result of changes within the
26 neighborhood, Father Montalbano and the newly formed
27 Resurrection Catholic Church began music and liturgy programs
28 in two languages, youth ministry and Bible study, a food and
29 clothing pantry, and studies for a future life of service
30 within the church; and
31 WHEREAS, Father Montalbano was instrumental in the

1 founding of the Archdiocesan Gay and Lesbian Outreach; Father
2 Montalbano was a founding member of the Catholic-Jewish
3 Couples Support Group; Father Montalbano taught theology at
4 Loyola University in Chicago; and
5 WHEREAS, In 1995, Father Montalbano traveled to Israel
6 with the late Joseph Cardinal Bernardin as director of
7 Catholic-Jewish dialogue for the archdiocese; and
8 WHEREAS, Father Montalbano will be remembered as the
9 "hallelujah priest"; it was the intention of Father
10 Montalbano to involve everyone in singing and prayers, even
11 it was a simple interjection of a "hallelujah" or "Amen" in
12 appropriate places; and
13 WHEREAS, Father Daniel F. Montalbano is survived by his
14 brother-in-law Scott Dixey, and two nieces; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 mourn, along with his family and parishioners, the death of
18 Reverend Daniel F. Montalbano of Resurrection Catholic
19 Church; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Reverend Daniel F. Montalbano and
22 Resurrection Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois.
