1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Hall of Fame in Centralia, Illinois, is
3 honored to have three new inductees added to its ranks each
4 year; and
5 WHEREAS, Robert Lee Wilson was the sixth child of Joseph
6 and Anna Wilson; Robert loved music, fishing, hunting, and
7 swimming at the Old Garren swimming hole; Robert worked for
8 his father in the area of farming and in the oil fields; at
9 the age of 20, Robert made the decision to enlist in the
10 Marines; his family saw Robert off at the train station, not
11 realizing it was the last time they would see their son
12 alive; and
13 WHEREAS, As Robert walked in front of his fellow
14 soldiers, a grenade sliced through the air; to ensure the
15 safety of his comrades, Robert Wilson gallantly threw himself
16 on top of the grenade, thus saving the lives of others; and
17 WHEREAS, Robert Wilson will be remembered by the citizens
18 of Centralia for his heroic act through his induction into
19 the Hall of Fame; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
22 salute Private First Class Robert L. Wilson on his posthumous
23 induction into the Centralia Hall of Fame; and be it further
24 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 presented to the family of Robert L. Wilson.
