90_HR0242 LRB9006959KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Centralia, Illinois, is the home to many 3 distinguished citizens; every year, three citizens are 4 honored by being inducted into the Centralia Hall of Fame; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Robert J. "Bob" Branson was born in Marion 7 County on June 20, 1881; he attended local schools and 8 attended Southern Illinois Normal School (now Southern 9 Illinois University) in Carbondale; he was admitted to the 10 Illinois Bar in 1921 after his graduation from Lincoln 11 College of Law in Springfield, Illinois; and 12 WHEREAS, Bob Branson was elected to the Illinois House of 13 Representatives in 1924, a position he held for the next 14 thirty years; while a member of the House, Representative 15 Branson held many leadership positions and held a seat on 16 numerous committees; he worked for the betterment of his 17 area, the safety of coal mines and the men who worked in 18 them, and he spearheaded the Branson Bill, which secured 19 permanent funding for Illinois' many junior colleges; and 20 WHEREAS, Bob Branson was married to Allie Frick in 1914; 21 together they raised two children, Fred and Kathryn; Bob 22 Branson passed away on June 27, 1959; he is remembered for 23 his hard work and integrity while serving in the Illinois 24 House of Representatives; therefore, be it 25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 26 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 27 salute the late Representative Bob Branson on his induction 28 into the Centralia Hall of Fame; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to the family of Bob Branson.
