1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The city of Centralia, Illinois, is proud to
3 honor many of its citizens with induction into the Centralia
4 Hall of Fame; and
5 WHEREAS, Gunnery Sergeant Robert H. McCard had served as
6 a recruiter in Centralia before being sent to the Pacific
7 theater; Mr. McCard had signed up Robert L. Wilson into the
8 Marines before leaving for his tour of duty; on June 16,
9 1944, McCard held off Japanese mortar fire by hurling hand
10 grenades at the enemy, thus giving his comrades time to
11 escape from a disabled tank; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 salute Sergeant Robert H. McCard on his posthumous induction
15 into the Centralia Hall of Fame; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Robert McCard.
