1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to honor William Hector of Downers
4 Grove, Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, William Hector, a United States History teacher
6 at Downers Grove South High School, was the recent recipient
7 of one of four 1997 Milken National Educator Awards from the
8 Milken Family Foundation and the Illinois State Board of
9 Education; and
10 WHEREAS, The Milken Award carries with it a $25,000
11 check, to be used by the educator in any way he sees fit; Mr.
12 Hector announced his intentions to use the money to aid the
13 students of the school district in learning about
14 transplants; Mr. Hector has received both a pancreas and
15 kidney transplant and is a member of the Barbara Ann Deboer
16 Foundation, and Organ Transplant Support; he is firmly behind
17 telling others about organ donation and would like to see his
18 students learn more about the programs; and
19 WHEREAS, William Hector was greeted in his classroom by
20 State Superintendent Joseph Spagnolo, District 99
21 Superintendent David Eblen, South High School Principal Craig
22 Zeck, State Representative Mary Lou Cowlishaw, as well as
23 other school employees, and members of the press;
24 Superintendent Spagnolo made the presentation to Mr. Hector;
25 and
26 WHEREAS, William Hector also received a Those Who Excel
27 Award of Excellence for Teaching, and is nominated for
28 Illinois Teacher of the Year; therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
31 salute William Hector of Downers Grove, Illinois, for

1 receiving the Milken Award; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to William Hector with our congratulations.
