90_HR0249 LRB9006926KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Mostly Music announces its glorious 1997-1998 3 silver anniversary season, which features the master 4 musicians of Illinois who played in the very first programs, 5 as well as rising new talents, performing in spectacular 6 community settings, ideal for chamber music; and 7 WHEREAS, Such esteemed artists as the Vermeer Quartet 8 with Larry Combs, Samuel Magad and the Chicago Symphony 9 players with Donald Peck, Ray Still, Rachel Barton, the 10 Pacifica Quartet, and the Willie Pickens Jazz Group will 11 perform in four unique series in Hyde Park, the Near North, 12 the North Shore, and Northeastern Illinois University; and 13 WHEREAS, In addition, Mostly Music will sponsor a series 14 of concerts, workshops, and symposiums as part of the NEA's 15 Millennium Program in a collaboration with John Eaton and 16 CUBE; The Rise of the American Music Identity-Roots and 17 Flowerings will cover a hundred years of American music and 18 explore our unique cultural history; and 19 WHEREAS, Mostly Music provides outreach programs for 20 thousands of public school students who are underserved in 21 cultural arts by offering residencies with teacher-artists in 22 classrooms and at assemblies throughout the city of Chicago; 23 and 24 WHEREAS, Mostly Music will present live performances to 25 thousands of senior citizens in nursing homes and centers in 26 the Magic Carpet concert series; and 27 WHEREAS, Mostly Music will be featured in monthly 28 broadcasts over WNIB-FM showcasing outstanding chamber 29 ensembles in honor of its twenty-fifth anniversary; and 30 WHEREAS, Mostly Music launches celebrations for its 31 twenty-fifth anniversary Sunday, September 28 at the Cliff -2- LRB9006926KBkbA 1 Dwellers Club in Chicago with a gala entitled "Always in 2 Tune", giving the MM award in achievement in the arts to 3 master musician Larry Combs and special recognition to 4 founding members of Mostly Music, Joyce Turner Hilkevitch and 5 posthumously, Zita Cogan; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 8 enthusiastically wave our batons as we salute Mostly Music 9 and commend the board of directors for their good work in 10 presenting more than 125 concerts and events in community 11 settings and at Northeastern Illinois University on the 12 occasion of their twenty-fifth anniversary; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 14 presented to Mostly Music, to Larry Combs and to Joyce Turner 15 Hilkevitch.
