1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, U.S. Route 51 was established in 1923 and was
3 constructed over the preexisting portion of the roadway
4 called Egyptian Trail in southern Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, a new U.S. Route 51, from Carbondale to Cario,
6 is being completed, which will abandon portions of old U.S.
7 Route 51; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 those portions of old U.S. Route 51 in southern Illinois that
11 have been abandoned by new U.S. Route 51 be named Egyptian
12 Trail; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That we respectfully request the Illinois
14 Department of Transportation to erect, at suitable locations
15 consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate
16 signs, markers, or plaques giving notice of the name; and be
17 it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the Secretary of Transportation for the State of
20 Illinois.
