Lamkin of Clinton, Illinois, has served 3 for more than twenty years as a member of the Illinois House 4 Republican staff; and 5 WHEREAS, Mona S. Lamkin was hired in 1977, on what was 6 described as a "temporary" basis, by the then-House 7 Republican Leader George H. Ryan, who remains a close 8 personal friend; and 9 WHEREAS, Mona S. Lamkin has served two Speakers, the 10 aforementioned George Ryan and the Honorable Lee A. Daniels, 11 specializing in substantive committee work for the House 12 Elections Committee, the House Public Utilities Committee, 13 and the House Registration and Regulation Committee, in which 14 duty she has instructed countless Representatives, staff 15 members and advocates, on both sides of the "aisle" and from 16 all walks of life, in the mysteries of electricity, 17 telecommunications, professional regulation, and how to speak 18 with a "Bahston" accent; and 19 WHEREAS, During this period, Mona S. Lamkin raised five 20 children, Maria, Thomas, Julie, Kathleen, and Sarah, and gave 21 them all successful starts in life, despite the challenges 22 inherent in balancing the roles of parent and public service 23 with the Illinois General Assembly; and 24 WHEREAS, Throughout this entire time, Mona S. Lamkin's 25 kind spirit, unflappable temperament, and innate decency have 26 given spiritual sustenance to the Illinois House of 27 Representatives of priceless value, above and beyond the 28 level of her professional expertise and experience; and 29 WHEREAS, In the words of the Honorable Lee A. Daniels, 30 Mona S. Lamkin is "the best of the best"; and 31 WHEREAS, In the words of the Honorable Mary Lou -2- LRB9007732KBkbB 1 Cowlishaw, Mona S. Lamkin is "a woman of worth"; and 2 WHEREAS, In the words of the Honorable Angelo "Skip" 3 Saviano, Mona S. Lamkin has "kept me in line"; and 4 WHEREAS, To the great dismay of her colleagues and 5 friends on both sides of the "aisle", Mona S. Lamkin is 6 bringing her public service to a close, and will no longer 7 "pahk" her "cah" at the Capitol Complex; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 10 wish Mona S. Lamkin a long and happy retirement to be filled 11 with the study of genealogy, frequent visits to her beloved 12 Cape Cod, and the company of her children and grandchildren; 13 and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That we encourage the aforementioned Mona S. 15 Lamkin to come back and pay us a visit now and then as we do 16 the people's business; and be it further 17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 18 presented to the aforementioned Mona S. Lamkin.
