1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois wishes to honor the
3 retirement of Mary A. Johnson of Burnham, Illinois, on
4 December 31, 1997; and
5 WHEREAS, Mary Newman Johnson was born on February 13,
6 1942 in Holmes County, Ebenezer, Mississippi; her parents
7 were Elmore and Lettie Newman; Mary is the oldest of three
8 children; and
9 WHEREAS, Mary attended elementary school at Holy City,
10 Richland, and then high school at Lexington Attendance
11 Center, Lexington, Mississippi; Mary attended church at
12 Antioch Church in Yazoo County where she was Sunday School
13 Secretary; and
14 WHEREAS, She relocated to Chicago in 1962 and joined St.
15 Michael M.B. Church; and
16 WHEREAS, Mary worked a variety of jobs before settling
17 down at Cook County Hospital; and
18 WHEREAS, In 1990 Mary and her sister Vianna moved to
19 Dolton, Illinois; she joined New Christian Valley Church,
20 South Holland, and is presently a member there; and
21 WHEREAS, In 1993 she married Elliot Johnson; they later
22 moved to Burnham; and
23 WHEREAS, On December 20, 1997, Mary will celebrate a
24 retirement dinner given by her two sisters, Elnora and
25 Vianna, and her husband; therefore be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Mary Johnson on her retirement and wish her the
29 best in her future; and be it further
