90_HR0297 LRB9008475KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to congratulate Danville High School 4 basketball coach Gene Gourley on his 500th victory; and 5 WHEREAS, Gene Gourley began his career in basketball at 6 Carrollton High School where he averaged fourteen points a 7 game as a player in his senior year; his first position as a 8 basketball coach was in Nashville, Illinois, in 1970; his 9 record for the first year was 22-6, with a record of 24-4 the 10 next season; in 1972 he moved to Paris, Illinois where he 11 spent six years, accumulating ninety-five wins; he then moved 12 to Danville, Illinois, and began his career as the Danville 13 High School basketball coach; and 14 WHEREAS, Gene Gourley's record at Danville stands at 15 359-201, eleven total regional championships, and seven Sweet 16 Sixteen appearances; for twenty-nine years, Coach Gourley has 17 coached basketball, and with game number 768, he reached the 18 milestone of 500 wins; and 19 WHEREAS, As the game against Champaign Centennial neared 20 an end, the score was tied, and Danville found an opening; 21 the junior point guard, David Gouard, pulled up from eighteen 22 feet and threw the ball over the head of a Centennial player; 23 Coach Gourley had been pushing for his point guard to start 24 taking the ball to the basket, but is happy that the young 25 player scored no matter where he shot from on the court; 26 Danville won the game with a 69-67 victory, and Coach Gourley 27 and his team celebrated an anniversary win; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 30 congratulate Coach Gene Gourley on his 500th win as a 31 basketball coach, and we congratulate Danville High School on 32 their record book victory against Champaign Centennial; and -2- LRB9008475KBkbA 1 be it further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to Coach Gene Gourley.
