1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of This Body that
3 Dayton L. Franklin of Herrin has served on the Herrin School
4 Board for the past thirty-seven years; and
5 WHEREAS, With the help of Dayton L. Franklin, Herrin High
6 School became the first high school in the State of Illinois
7 to operate a student run banking program, the First Tiger
8 Trust, which provides savings accounts to students and
9 teaches them the value of investment and financial security;
10 and
11 WHEREAS, Dayton L. Franklin has helped to bring the
12 information age into the classroom by soliciting funds to
13 connect the Herrin Unit #4 classrooms to the information
14 superhighway; and
15 WHEREAS, Dayton L. Franklin fought valiantly and was
16 wounded in service of his country in World War II; and
17 WHEREAS, Dayton L. Franklin has strengthened his
18 community by volunteering hundreds of hours of service to the
19 city by serving as the Director of the Herrin Civic Center;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, Dayton L. Franklin has strengthened the
22 communities with Williamson County by serving on the
23 Williamson County Housing Authority; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
26 commend Dayton L. Franklin for his service to his community,
27 his county, and his country; and that we extend our best
28 wishes to him for continued health and happiness in the
29 future; and be it further
30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
