 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION
 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives wish to send their sincere condolences to the
 4    family  and  friends  of Everett Hedrick of Fisher, Illinois;
 5    and
 6        WHEREAS, Everett Hedrick was born in Elliott, Illinois on
 7    December 11, 1918;  his  parents  were  John  Hugh  and  Nola
 8    Cummings  Hedrick;  on  May  25, 1946 he married Ruth Carolyn
 9    Springen in North Dakota; and
10        WHEREAS, Everett Hedrick served as a platoon sergeant  in
11    the  23rd Marines, Fourth Marine Division; Mr. Hedrick served
12    in World War II in Saipan and Iwo Jima; he received a  Purple
13    Heart  on June 23, 1944; Mr. Hedrick was a life member of the
14    Fisher AMVETS, the Second Marine  Division,  and  the  Fourth
15    Marine Division; and
16        WHEREAS, Mr. Hedrick was elected Champaign County sheriff
17    in  1954;  Mr.  Hedrick was new to the political arena in the
18    area; he could not run for  re-election  due  to  then  State
19    constitutional  constrictions  that  did not allow concurrent
20    terms of office; in 1962 he was re-elected,  as  well  as  in
21    1970  and  1974,  after  the  constitutional  laws  had  been
22    changed;  in  December of 1978 he retired from public office;
23    he was a member of the  Illinois  Sheriffs'  Association,  as
24    well as serving as a past president of that organization; and
25        WHEREAS,  Everett  Hedrick was an independent businessman
26    in both Champaign and Fisher, where he  operated  a  hardware
27    store;  in 1960 he made an unsuccessful run for state senator
28    in the primary election and  was  narrowly  defeated  by  the
29    incumbent, Everett Peters; and
30        WHEREAS,   Everett  Hedrick  is  survived  by  his  wife,
31    Carolyn; his son, Everett William Hedrick; his two daughters,

 1    Suzanne Child and  Dianne  Utne;  his  two  brothers,  Martin
 2    Hedrick  and  Robert  Hedrick;  his sister, Wilma Birkey; and
 3    eight grandsons; therefore, be it
 4        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 5    NINETIETH  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
 6    mourn, along with  his  family  and  friends,  the  death  of
 7    Everett Hedrick of Fisher, Illinois; and be it further
 8        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 9    presented to the family of Everett Hedrick.
