1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS,
3 The news has reached our Capital city
4 That our best buddy Joyce is soon to turn sixty.
5 With cries of "Oh, no!", "She's surely not...", "Never!"
6 It was clear, to the pols, she'd be fifty forever.
7 The lawmakers shuddered and shook their heads
8 'Til one of their number arose, and she said:
9 "Although I'm not clever at poems that rhyme,
10 Everyone knows that sixty is prime."
11 "Joyce's finished with diapers, the terrible two's.
12 She can wear what she wants - even comfortable shoes.
13 The world is her oyster - and with Joyce's grace,
14 You'll find it's just now that she's reaching her pace."
15 It was quiet that day on the floor of the House
16 While lawmakers sorted the ins and the outs.
17 Then slowly the cheers from upstate and down
18 Swelled through the chamber in old Springfield town.
19 City slickers and hicks, the left and the right
20 All joined in the view Joyce's future is bright:
21 "SIX-O IS BOFFO!" There's no doubt about it-
22 Even the Speaker started to shout it.
23 therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 Because on this evening the vote is unanimous,
27 We send her best wishes and greetings from all of us.
28 Happy Birthday to Joyce! And buck up, my dear
29 We'll be wishing you joy at the same time next year.
