90_HR0367 LRB9011889KBkbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are proud to honor Kate Shindle, Miss America 4 1998; and 5 WHEREAS, Kate Shindle is from Evanston, Illinois, and is 6 a Senior at Northwestern University; Kate is majoring in 7 theater and sociology and plans to pursue a career in musical 8 theater; and 9 WHEREAS, Kate Shindle is a volunteer for Chicago's Test 10 Positive Aware Network, the NAMES Project, the Center for 11 AIDS Services, and several hospices; she was honored by the 12 Ryan White Foundation and the Olender Foundation for her work 13 with HIV/AIDS prevention among teens; she is an honorary 14 board member for the AIDS Policy Center for Children, Youth 15 and Families; she has worked with Sandy Thurman, the Clinton 16 Administration AIDS Czar, Senators Dick Durbin and Carol 17 Moseley-Braun, and former Senator Harris Wofford, CEO of the 18 Corporation for National Service; Kate Shindle has 19 collaborated with leaders of the Centers for Disease Control, 20 AmeriCorps, the National Minority AIDS Council, the National 21 AIDS Fund, the American Federation of Teachers, and the 22 National Education Association AIDS Project; and 23 WHEREAS, Miss America takes her education program to the 24 schools throughout the country, spreading the message of AIDS 25 prevention; and 26 WHEREAS, Kate Shindle travels over 20,000 miles a month 27 fulfilling her duties as Miss America; Kate Shindle takes 28 the time to share the important message that we must stop the 29 spread of AIDS, sharing her message with young people across 30 the country; and 31 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is proud to be represented -2- LRB9011889KBkbA 1 by Kate Shindle; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 3 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 4 are proud to have Kate Shindle as an ambassador for the State 5 of Illinois; as Miss America, Kate has the opportunity to 6 change lives, and with her very important message, she will 7 do just what she has set her mind on, stopping the disease 8 AIDS; and be it further 9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 10 presented to Miss America 1998, Kate Shindle.
