90_HR0384 LRB9011939CBcbA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The institution of marriage is one of the 3 cornerstones upon which our society is built, and a marriage 4 that has achieved a notable longevity is truly a model for 5 the people of the State of Illinois; and 6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mr. and Mrs. 7 George A. Westrick of Taylorville will celebrate the 50th 8 anniversary of their marriage; and 9 WHEREAS, George A. Westrick, originally from Hinsdale, 10 Illinois and Alice H. Cichon of Berwyn, Illinois were married 11 on April 3, 1948 in Berwyn, Illinois at Saint Odilo's 12 Catholic Church with Father Flannery officiating the Mass; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, George A. Westrick came to Taylorville in 1946 15 to work for Sangamon, Incorporated, served in the capacity of 16 office manager, secretary, vice president, executive vice 17 president, president, and chairman of the board, and 18 celebrated 50 years with the company in 1996; and 19 WHEREAS, Alice H. Cichon worked as a reporter at the 20 Chicago Herald American; she moved to Taylorville in 1948, 21 where she then volunteered at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital 22 Board, Auxiliary Board, St. Mary's School, and Cub Scouts; 23 and 24 WHEREAS, George and Alice Westrick are the loving parents 25 of Mary Alice Westrick Gonwa, Barbara Westrick White, and 26 Thomas George Westrick; and the proud grandparents of Matthew 27 Thomas White, Michael Westrick White, Anne Elizabeth White, 28 Claire Westrick Gonwa, Charlotte Ann Gonwa, Nicole Westrick, 29 and Michelle Westrick; and 30 WHEREAS, George A. Westrick and his family resided in 31 Taylorville where he held many positions, including Chairman -2- LRB9011939CBcbA 1 of the Board and President of Sangamon, Incorporated; he is 2 known in the community for his contributions to St. Vincent 3 Memorial Hospital and has served in Board positions and as a 4 Capital Campaign Foundation and Auxiliary member and 5 financial contributor to the Westrick Memorial on skilled 6 care; he has been a trustee of St. Mary's Catholic Church 7 since 1950, has served as a board member of the Parish 8 Council financial committee and as chairman of the Priest 9 Retirement Fund, and has been a financial supporter of St. 10 Mary's School, Church, YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, Easter 11 Seals, Kids are Kids and Sertoma; and 12 WHEREAS, He and his wife, Alice, were awarded the ASC 13 Health Systems Clementine Zerr Award for meritorious service; 14 he was Sertoman of the Year in 1994 and received the Lifetime 15 Achievement Award in 1997 from the City of Taylorville, 16 Illinois and the Chamber of Commerce; and 17 WHEREAS, Alice Westrick supported and encouraged him with 18 all of his endeavors, and they truly acted as a team; and 19 WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its 20 highest plateaus when a couple such as George and Alice 21 Westrick celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary; and 22 WHEREAS, They stand as an example to all in their 23 commitment to the sanctity of marriage and their love and 24 devotion to each other and to their family and friends; they 25 serve as a reminder that hard work, dedication, and love for 26 the morals that built and preserved our country can make a 27 difference in today's world; therefore be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 30 congratulate Mr. and Mrs. George Westrick on the occasion of 31 their Golden Wedding Anniversary; that we commend them for 32 achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children -3- LRB9011939CBcbA 1 and grandchildren and rich in friendships; and that we wish 2 them happiness and good health in the future; and be it 3 further 4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 5 presented to Mr. and Mrs. Westrick and their family as an 6 expression of our respect and esteem.
