1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Centralia Historical Hall of Fame has chosen
3 inductees for 1998 inclusion into the Hall; and
4 WHEREAS, Major General Thomas Eggers will be installed
5 into the Hall of Fame at a dinner in October; Thomas Eggers
6 was born in Centralia in 1941; he is a graduate of Centralia
7 Township High School; in 1964 Mr. Eggers earned a Bachelor of
8 Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy; in
9 1972 he earned a Master's degree in systems analysis from the
10 University of Rochester; in 1968 he completed squadron
11 officer school; in 1975 he completed naval command and staff
12 college; in 1977 he completed air war college; and in 1979 he
13 completed national war college; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Eggers was commissioned in the Air Force
15 upon his graduation from the Air Force Academy; in 1965 he
16 completed his pilot training at Reese Air Force Base in
17 Texas; he received his wings and was assigned as a C-141
18 pilot to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware; he was an EC-47
19 pilot at Pleiku and Tan Son Nhut air bases in South Vietnam
20 from April 1969 to April 1970; Mr. Eggers flew more than one
21 hundred missions in Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand; and
22 WHEREAS, Thomas Eggers is a command pilot who has flown
23 more than 5,000 hours; he has served with the United States
24 Air Force throughout the world, where he has held many
25 command positions; he has advanced from Second Lieutenant in
26 1964 to First Lieutenant in 1965, Captain in 1967, Major in
27 1972, Lieutenant Colonel in 1976, Colonel in 1980, Brigadier
28 General in 1986, and Major General in 1989; and
29 WHEREAS, Major General Thomas Eggers is married to the
30 former Linda Burtschi, also of Centralia; they have two
31 children, Laura and Thomas; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 congratulate the Centralia Historical Hall of Fame on their
4 choice of Major General Thomas Eggers for inclusion into the
5 1998 Hall; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Major General Thomas Eggers and the Centralia
8 Historical Hall of Fame.
